Statia Sustainability Conference - An Event for all

Students display talented skits at SSC-05

The St. Eustatius Tourism Development Foundation STDF has been staging its annual conference on sustainable development since 2012. The sixth edition of the Statia Sustainability Conference (SSC-06) will be taking place September 26 and 27 under the theme: “Sustainability; a tool for development”. STDF has teamed up with Caribbean Netherlands Science Institute (CNSI), St. Eustatius National Park STENAPA, GLOBE Caribbean, Eastern Caribbean Public Health Foundation and the St. Eustatius Business Association (STEBA).

"The sustainable conference will showcase speakers and companies dedicated to improving ways of life," said STDF's Public Relations Officer, Teena Lopes. International, regional and local speakers will share their experience and expertise on a range of topics, including: Tourism and sustainable practices, looking back and thinking ahead – climate change, sustainable coastal management, water efficiency in sustainable development, and health is wealth.

Conference guests will have the opportunity to acquire knowledge from leading experts from across the world, with professionals being prepared to discuss critical issues pertaining to sustainability in the region's tourism industry. The conference will also be attended by members of Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO), which Statia has been a member country of for many years.

“Each year the event becomes more exciting, there is a saying that goes: “If I plant you, you going grow?”, and this is the main purpose behind this significant event, Lopes. Attendees are granted with the opportunity to come together for two full days of networking, professional development and personal growth opportunities, sharing great experiences and living examples.”

Registration is now open for the Conference, which will be hosted at the Mike van Putten Youth Centre. For more information on the sustainability conference, one may contact Maya Leon-Pandt at mayaleon-pandt@statia-tourism.com or call the STDF at +599 318 2433.
